Sussex holidays & caravan parks
Brighton and Bognor may be most familiar, but there’s so much more to the sunny Sussex coast
With its history of being a favourite UK holiday destination – the Victorians were particular fans of Brighton and Hastings – Sussex has long been one of the best places in the UK when you want to enjoy a day at the seaside. In 2014, Bognor Regis was officially recognized as the sunniest place in England, so it’s not hard to see why it’s proved such a hit with us all. But it’s not just beach resorts; Sussex is a county steeped in history and beautiful rolling countryside – who hasn’t heard of the Battle of Hastings and the South Downs?
If you’ve got fashionistas and trend-spotters in your family, you have to head to Brighton and Camber Sands. With their quirky boutiques, rock and roll history, and pop-up food restaurants, the buzz around here is electric.
If castles interest you, Sussex has plenty for you to visit – 11, in fact. One of the most well known of these is Bodiam Castle – and this one is the real deal. With a portcullis, spiral staircase and battlements, kids (and adults) will feel like they’ve travelled back to Medieval times.
West Wittering beach is one of the top tourist beaches in Britain, probably because of the miles of golden sand – in a county that’s famed for its more pebbly shoreline – it’s high quality water, and excellent family facilities. It can get busy on a sunny day, so make sure you head there early. The South Downs are an absolute gem – with over 3,300 rights of way and over 1,600 square kilometres of natural beauty, you can wile away hours discovering new walks and cycle routes. Of course, a country walk wouldn’t be the same without a stop at a local pub and you’ll find plenty of those too!
