Our top tips for making single parent holidays that little bit easier
Where do we go? How do we get there? What is there to do? Organising a holiday on your own can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t need to be. We’ve put together our top tips for single parents when arranging a fun seaside holiday that everyone will enjoy.
Make it an adventure
With thousands of miles of coastline in the UK, you’re not short of beautiful surroundings to choose from when looking for a break by the seaside. And with each destination having lots of fabulous places to visit, using Haven as a base is a great way to explore the local area together. From beautiful beaches and landscapes to historical sites and adventure parks, our holiday parks are specially placed so you can make the most of the surrounding area and get involved in nearby events.
How to get there
If you're driving, choose somewhere close to home. With 36 parks to choose from you could be there in under two hours and hearing 'I can see the sea" rather than "are we nearly there yet!" If you're coming by public transport then check out the FAQ section on your chosen park page to plan your journey. And for some fun and games on the way, our Seaside Squad have put together some great puzzles so the journey will whizz by in no time at all.
Affordable breaks for single mums and dads
We’re well known for our great value holiday packages, but keeping everyone active for a week on holiday is another cost in itself, right? Well, when budgets are tight it’s reassuring to know you have loads of free options when it comes to keeping everyone entertained. As we’ve mentioned, exploring the area nearby is a great way to create some fun family memories without it impacting your wallet. But you also don’t have to venture too far for some great free activities on your Haven holiday park too! Check the park map for local walks and ideas for beach games. With heated indoor and outdoor pools, Nature Rockz, sports activities and evening shows all included a Haven holiday is never dull whatever your budget.
Plan some fun things to do ahead of time
From all out action to a leisurely swim, there are loads of cool activities where everyone can get involved. Activities like football coaching and fun inflatables are free but some coached activities you need an activity bundle pass for and as spaces are limited for many of them it’s always a good idea to plan ahead. Our activity bundles are a great place to start, available in packs of 12 or 24, you can pre-book the activities you’d like to try to avoid disappointment. If you fancy making a splash check out our selection of free and paid for water activities or for some sporty fun and games try our sport and fun activities.
What about food?
Feeding the family isn’t always easy on holiday, so we’ve made it scrumptiously simple for both foodies and fusspots. With the flexibility of self catering you can decide to eat in or eat out. Each park has a convenience store and they're competitively priced too. Depending on the park there are some great takeaway options and some even deliver to your holiday home.
Making new friends
We’re a social bunch at Haven, and like to get everyone involved with the fun and games. Bring your children along to and they’ll soon be playing happily and making new friends with kids their own age. And whilst they’re having fun, you can mingle with the other parents or even join in if you’re up for it. Oh and in the evenings don't forget to take a buggy with you so if your little ones get tired they can sleep whilst the older ones party on!
Bring your four legged friend
If you’re like us and think of your dog as part of the family, then you probably won’t want to leave them while you’re away. With the majority of our holiday parks offering pet friendly accommodation, now you won’t have to leave your furry little friend behind. For an extra special treat we’d recommend Lakeland in the Lake District, which might just be the best place to walk a dog ever!
